Rowan Partners for Education recently conducted two surveys with elementary and middle school teachers. One of the questions we asked was: “How could RPE and the community support you as an educator?” Many teachers responded that supplies and resources, along with parenting workshops would be helpful. Teachers stated that many of their students lack the supplies they need for school.
Our Parental Involvement and Best-of-the-Best Teachers Committees met to discuss how we can help retain our quality teachers, give teachers a visible sign that they are appreciated for all they do in their profession, and involve the community.
Educators' Express, a free resource store for public school teachers, evolved from a visit to Classroom Central in Charlotte, which serves as a model for Educators' Express. RPE will coordinate volunteers and donations of items from the community so that teachers can “shop” for classroom resources they need…all for free.
Educators' Express is located on the campus of East Rowan High School. The Rowan-Salisbury School System has generously donated a vacant mobile unit for RPE to use. Businesses, churches and individuals from our community have generously donated a wide variety of items that can be used in the classroom. RSSS teachers just need to contact RPE to make an appointment! It’s that easy! Be sure to review our shopping policies before making your appointment.
